Unemployment benefit: Maximum value increases to 1,306 euros in 2025.

Maximum unemployment benefit will increase by 33 euros in 2025.

The maximum unemployment benefit in Portugal will increase to 1,306 euros from January 2025, driven by the update of the Indexante de Apoios Sociais (IAS), which will be set at 522.50 euros.

According to what is read on Notícias ao Minuto, this increase in the IAS is due to the growth of the economy in the last two years, combined with the inflation in November, data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In 2025, the IAS will increase by 13.24 euros, rising from the current 509.26 euros to 522.50 euros, according to calculations by the Lusa agency.

With this increase, the maximum amount of in subside unemployment, calculated at 2.5 times the IAS, will rise from 1,273 euros to 1,306 euros. The minimum amount will align with the new benchmark, increasing to 522.50 euros.

The calculation of the subsidy varies according to the net reference salary and specific conditions.

• For workers whose net reference income is less than the IAS;

• For those who receive the national minimum wage;

• For couples where both are unemployed and have dependents to care for.

Note that the IAS is still used as a reference for several social benefits, such as family allowance tiers, eligibility criteria for the Social Insertion Income (RSI), determination of the maximum value of assets for the attribution of social benefits, and granting of scholarships, among others.

This increase in the IAS and consequently in the unemployment benefit reflects the economic growth and gradual recovery of inflation after years marked by instability caused by global factors.
