Another return to school and the importance of educating the youngest in financial literacy remains.

At this time of back to school shopping, it may be a good time to teach the little ones about finances, as suggested by the expert in Children's Financial Education, Cristina Judas.

The professional provides the following tips, cited by Notícias ao Minuto, so that children can be financially educated.

"Before rushing to buy all new materials, encourage children to evaluate what they already have. Explain that reusing materials from the previous year is a great way to save money and be more environmentally friendly, after all reusing is part of the sustainability policy of the 3 R's - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," she explains.

Then, when analyzing the family budget, the specialist recommends that you "involve children in the budgeting process" related to back-to-school expenses, as it "shows how important financial planning is".

For good financial management, you can also choose "basic school supplies instead of items with expensive characters or brands", to teach "children the value of functionality over status".

In addition, the internet is "an opportunity to compare prices and find offers", therefore it can encourage "children to help with price research and promotions".

"Teach children to make a wishlist of school supplies, highlighting the needs and wants. This helps distinguish between essentials and extras," it also suggests.

And finally, why not take advantage of the return to school to start an educational allowance? This will help "children practice responsible money management".

"The return to classes offers the perfect scenario to integrate financial education into children's daily lives. By taking advantage of this moment to teach concepts such as planning, conscious choices, and saving, we are empowering them to make informed financial decisions and cultivate a responsible mindset towards money. Starting early is essential to build a solid foundation that will accompany them throughout life, ensuring a more secure and successful future," summarizes the specialist.
