The Complementary Solidarity Allowance for the elderly (CSI) will increase by 30 euros starting in January 2025, rising from 600.6 euros monthly to 630.6 euros.
In a note published on Thursday, Notícias ao Minuto reported that the Social Security Institute informed that "the updated value will be paid in February, with retroactive effects to January".
According to Social Security, "beneficiaries already receiving CSI do not need to submit a new application", since "the amount of the benefit will be automatically recalculated".
This increase results from a 4.99% update of the CSI reference value, which becomes annually 7,568 euros, representing a rise of 360 euros from the current value since June (7,208 euros).
"In the scope of the Program of the XXIV Constitutional Government, the gradual increase of the CSI reference value to the amount of 820 euros in 2028 is foreseen," says the preamble of an ordinance published on December 3rd in the Official Gazette, cited by the news website.
It should be noted that CSI "is a monthly cash support paid to elderly people with low incomes, aged equal to or older than the normal age of access to the Old-age Pension of the general Social Security system, that is, 66 years and 4 months, and residents in Portugal".
