In 2025, landlords will be able to increase rent prices up to a maximum of 2.16%, according to the August inflation data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
As per what is shared by Notícias ao Minuto, the same data reveals that "in the last 12 months until August, the average variation of the price index, excluding housing, was 2.16%, a value that serves as the basis for the coefficient used for the annual update of rents for next year, under the New Urban Renting Regime (NRAU)".
The effective value of income update will now have to be published in the Official Gazette by October 30, after landlords announce to tenants the rent increase. Note that the increase can only occur, effectively, 30 days after the notice.
If confirmed, this rate to be applied in 2025 represents a significant slowing down compared to the previous year, when it was 6.94%. & nbsp;
This is because, in 2024, the previous government decided not to impose a maximum limit on rents (as happened in 2023), approving measures to strengthen support for tenants.
