The Municipal Subsidy for Affordable Rent (SMAA) in Lisbon, aimed at supporting the payment of rents for families and professionals who have moved, can now be applied for. This support is targeted at those who spend 30% or more of their income on the monthly rent of a privately rented property.
The Lisboa City Council announced that applications, open since November 4th, are available until December 11th and must be done online on the Habitar Lisboa Platform at https://habitarlisboa.cm-lisboa.pt/ords/f?p=100:14::::::.
In this 7th edition, SMAA maintains the minimum overall income of 6,000 euros for participation, allowing more people to qualify and benefit from the monthly support to relieve the burden of rent on the family budget.
In a statement quoted by Notícias ao Minuto, the President of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, highlights the "unprecedented effort to address serious housing problems."
"We have been working daily to expedite these responses, with the construction of new houses, the rehabilitation and availability of municipal housing - including many that were closed when we started our mandate - and the strengthening of the rent support program", reads the text.
"For the second consecutive edition, we have reduced the value of access to the Municipal Subsidy for Affordable Rent, to allow people and families who did not meet the criteria to access this program to be included and benefit from monthly support in paying their rent," the responsible person explains.
